Month of Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship
November 7th to December 5th, 1951.
Poster Number: PP 880
Poster Notes: Next to Stalin is Klement Gottwald (1896-1953), Czechoslovak Communist leader. The paper reads, Se Sovětským svazem na věčné časy! (With the Soviet Union forever!). From 1935 to 1944, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union signed three treaties of cooperation but after World War II, the Soviets held political claim to much of the nation, and friendship was largely based on Czechoslovakia’s economic dependency on the Soviet Union. This poster highlights the November 7th anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. In Czechoslovakia, the anniversary was celebrated via the Union of Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship. A highlight was a march with participants carrying paper lanterns in solidarity with the Soviet Union.
