Gerasimov, Nikolai Mikhailovich

Nikolai Mikhailovich Gerasimov was a Soviet-based graphic artist, watercolorist and, a poster artist. He was also a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Born in the western Russian city of Kostroma; Gerasimov developed a passion for art during the period he was working in Leningrad. From 1923 to 1927, he studied at the VKhUTEMAS art school in Leningrad. In the late 1920s, he began his professional career. His work was included in the 1932 First All-Union Poster Exhibition ("A Poster in the Service of the Five-Year Plan") held in Moscow.

From the early 1930s onward, Gerasimov lived in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR where he worked as an art editor for the publishing house of Uzgiz (Uzbeckoe Gosudarstvennoe Izdatel'svo). He also taught at the Tashkent Art School in the 1950s. His work was featured in a variety of venues throughout the Uzbek SSR. Beyond his standard elaborations in graphic design, Gerasimov illustrated books and worked with easel painting. In 1973, the artist had a solo exhibition in Tashkent.
