**Información sobre el cartel:** [On banner above solder]. “It’s impossible to build a communist society in a country of illiterates.” --Lenin; This poster propagates not only the October Revolution but also the likbez campaign. Likbez (*likvidatsiia bezgramotnosti*) was a program to "liquidate illiteracy" in the U.S.S.R. It started in 1919 when Vladimir Lenin signed the decree "On eradication of illiteracy". From that point, Russians ages 8 to 50 years were required to be literate in their native language.
