Chernov, Anatolii Mikhailovich

There is little published information available about the life and career of Anatolii Chernov. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts in 1938, and during his professional life, worked in the field of graphic design and monumental art. Throughout his career, the artist designed posters for the publishing house of Iskusstvo (Art). Some of the posters he designed were made in collaboration with the Soviet artist, Petr Golub’. A few of Chernov's poster titles include: “What is Komsomol? To teach and to learn, to raise a young generation to be loyal to the tasks of the motherland!” (1939); "Look: the whole Soviet country is singing and dancing... There is no one brighter and more beautiful than you, our red spring!" (co-designed with Petr Golub’, 1946), and others.

Anatolii Chernov developed monumental works in the Ukrainian SSR such as the ceiling paintings for the October (International) Cultural Center and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, both in Kiev. In addition, the artist is credited as the designer of a mosaic panel developed for residential buildings in Krivoi Rog, Dnipropetrovsk region. Published sources alternatively list the artist’s death as having occurred in 1981.
